Table tennis for Meta Quest

Play opponents who play like people.

Loopspin's opponents are learned from real play, so they move like club players do, misses included, and they come in different styles and levels. It's made for players who want their VR sessions to count.

Physics

Calibrated against reality.

On the left, a ball machine filmed through the headset's own cameras. On the right, the game takes each ball as it leaves the machine and plays it forward, off the table, through the racket and back over the net. We measure the table and the rubber this way and tune the game's physics to match.

You can set up your in-game racket to match your own blade and rubbers, so a stroke that works at the club works here.

Opponents

Opponents learned from real rallies.

Instead of stilted, scripted opponents, play against human-like AI trained to mimic real people. Do you struggle against a particular play style? Play an AI with that style until you nail it.

As more people play, the AI gets more diverse.

Online

Play people when you want to.

When you're ready, try your skills against real people online.

Ranked matches move your rating. The AI opponents are rated on the same scale, so your rating means the same thing whoever you play.

Train at home several times for every session at the club.

Practice that carries over

You get better at table tennis through repetition: see the ball, play the stroke, see what happened, adjust. At the club that loop runs a couple of evenings a week. With Loopspin it runs whenever you have twenty minutes, and you don't need a table or a partner. It's also a good way to stay active between sessions.

Practice only carries over if the other side behaves like the real thing. That's why Loopspin's opponents are learned from real players and its physics is measured against real balls, so what you practise at home is what you'll meet at the club.

Why VR table tennis works

The one sport where VR is almost the real thing.

The controller is the racket. You hold it and swing it the way you would at the club, and the ball weighs next to nothing, so there's little to fake. A room a few metres wide is enough.

What VR has lacked is a good opponent. There still aren't many VR players, so online lobbies are often empty, and when you do find a match there's lag. Built-in AI returns everything with robotic precision. In Loopspin there's an opponent at your level whenever you put the headset on.

Questions

Which headsets does it run on?

Loopspin is built and tested on Meta Quest 3 and 3S. The AI runs on the headset itself, with no cloud and no lag.

Can I play other people?

Yes. Play real people online, in casual or ranked matches.

How much space do I need?

Enough clear floor to swing freely and take a step to each side, the same as behind a real table.

Will it help my real game?

That's the goal. We're working with club players to measure whether practice in Loopspin shows up at the table.

Does Loopspin record my games?

Only if you allow it. Loopspin can save your racket and body motion during matches, much like a replay, and uses it to make opponents play more like people. There's no camera footage, and you can switch it off any time.

When is the release?

No date yet. Playtesters hear first.
